House rules and safety

Last updated: [date] · Version 1.0-draft

Draft for review. These terms are a working draft pending review by a New Zealand lawyer. Highlighted text is still to be confirmed.

House rules

These rules keep guests safe and keep us on good terms with the neighbours. Breaking the serious ones (marked ★) can end a stay early under clause 1.12 of the booking terms.

  • ★ No parties or events. Maximum [number] guests overnight; day visitors by arrangement.
  • Quiet hours 10pm–7am. The cottage shares a larger property, so please keep music and voices low outside.
  • ★ No smoking or vaping inside, including on decks under cover. Smoke outdoors only, away from open windows, and take butts with you.
  • ★ No outdoor fires or fireworks unless the fire season allows it — check checkitsalright.nz first. Gas BBQ use is fine; never leave it unattended.
  • Pets: welcome — tell us when you book. [Max [n], fee NZ$[x], kept off beds and furniture.] Clean up after them on the lawn.
  • Children must be supervised at all times near the stream, the deck and the driveway.
  • Parking: parking on site is limited. Don't block the shared driveway or park on the berm.
  • Rubbish and recycling: leave it in the bins provided — our cleaners sort it after you leave.
  • Septic system: only toilet paper down the toilet. Sanitary products go in the bin in the bathroom.
  • Leave it as you found it: dishes washed, rubbish out, furniture back where it was, windows and doors locked, keys back in the lockbox.
  • Report breakages straight away — we'd much rather know.
  • Commercial photography or filming needs our written permission.

Safety and emergency information

More detail is in the house book (compendium) in the cottage. Please read it when you arrive.

  • Emergency: 111 (police, fire, ambulance). Give the address from your arrival details.
  • Nearest medical: the health centre in Coromandel Town. After hours call Healthline 0800 611 116; in an emergency call 111.
  • Smoke alarms: don't remove or cover them. If one beeps, send us a message.
  • Fire: get everyone out first, then call 111. Exits, the meeting point and the fire extinguisher are shown in the house book.
  • Tsunami: Coromandel is a coastal area. If an earthquake is long or strong, or you get an official warning, move straight away inland and uphill, away from the harbour. Don't wait for a siren — long or strong, get gone.
  • Civil Defence and road closures: Coromandel roads can close in heavy weather. Check NZTA traffic and travel updates and the Thames-Coromandel District Council civil defence page before travelling.
  • The stream: the Whangarahi Stream can rise quickly in heavy rain. Keep away from the banks when it's running high, watch children near the water, and take care on wet rocks.
  • Beach safety: swim between the flags at patrolled beaches; watch for rips.
  • Gas: where to turn it off is in the house book. If you smell gas, turn it off, open windows, leave, and send us a message (call 111 if it's serious).
  • First aid kit: in the kitchen, under the sink.
  • Need us during your stay? Send a message from your booking page. The cottage is looked after by Coromandel Properties.
